I just found out that my 12-year-old daughter has a Myspace, when I was looking at our laptop's internet history. I've heard alot of bad things about mySpace on the internet over the past year. I saw her myspace profile, it's decent and doesn't have a picture. Her profile is on private and when I went into her account, I recognized that all of her friends of MySpace are her friends that go to school with her and have been over to her house.

Should I really delete if there's nothing bad? I'm pretty sure she was pressured by her friends at school to make one, because it doesn't seem like her to make one because last year I heard her say to a friend Myspace was for losers.

Don't delete it - it seems like she's being very responsible. You can't say that she was pressured into doing it, people change and kids don't always tell their parents everything. If you delete it, she might just start to rebel and she can always make a new one. I have the same situation in my house. My daughter is 12 and she and all of her friends are my space junkies! Just keep an eye on it. The rule in my house is that I have access to her profile and that I am informed of her password. We have already gone over all of the basic rules regarding safety and security. I do check on it occasionally and there have been times when I have seen a thing or two that I find to be innappropriate....but not too bad. Mostly just the the language used between she and her friends on messages and the occasional friend that has inappropriate pics. Keep an eye on that because they can add celebrities to their list of friends, and sometimes junk filters through.

Just keep an eye on it. If she is unhappy with you checking in...then she shouldn't have it. If there is nothing to hide..then she shouldn't have a problem. Let her know that you DO trust her....it's the rest of the world you are worried about! It is your job to protect her...I bet the parents of victims wish they had checked a little closer.

hi. yea when i first started facebook i thought it was boring too but you just have to learn more about it. you can send people "gifts" to their page. and you can buy them "drinks". you can play games for example, i could challenge you on a movie quiz to see how well you know the movie A CHRISTMAS STORY just for an example. Its a lot easier to connect to people on facebook. There are tons of quizzes there are also thousands of groups you can join. you can still have music videos on you're page. trust me once you give it a chance i think you'll really like it!! good luck!!

I really don't know much about Facebook, I have a profile there, and there seems to be a lot more group activity, a bit more potential to meet new people, rather than simply keeping in touch with people you already know

I personally like Myspace better (not to say I LIKE it, neither are my favorite social networking site), it seems to give more room for creativity, It's easier to use (learning curve isn't as steep), and simply more fun.

I switched over to facebook when I first found out about it and definitely prefer it. Facebook feels a lot more safe than myspace and the options are amazing. Most of my friends have one, so its great for communication purposes because of the ability to message, write on eachothers walls, create events and groups, send gifts, poke, etc. Finding people with the networks is a breeze and your facebook page can be just as personalized as a myspace page but in a very different way. The layout is simple and, it could appear boring at first because of the inability to personalize backgrounds and fonts, but the lack of obnoxious pop-ups and unnecessary layout features that makes your computer freeze while loading make it a lot more pleasant. The applications recently created and the ability to post pictures makes facebook so much fun! I would definitely give facebook a chance because you are sure to come to like it just as much if not more than myspace.

For an article for my school paper, I did a lot of research into the safety features of both sites, which is the main concern with most people because the sites serve basically the same purpose. With Facebook, members must be invited and confirmed by a network, so that means no random old skeezes. Its not 100% safe, but they've been working on a faster, more effective turn around for abuse complaints. Plus, you can choose how much information individuals see. Facebook is getting more and more customizable. Over the passed summer, they've added a lot of new apps and cool stuff, so if you have a lot of people already using it, I highly recommend Facebook.

I think Myspace gets a bad rap, but if you're going to keep using a myspace account, please please PLEASE be careful. A lot of the myspace related incidents and tragedies have to do with people not being careful about who they talk to and who can see their information. A myspace profile is much more open to the public than a facebook. But, you can customize it more, which is pretty fun. Also, myspace has a much larger music and video community. Their band sites are amazing, but you don't need a myspace to look at them, so you can really go either way.

Facebook WAS created for a more mature audience. It was started by Harvard students a couple years back and has expanded over time to other colleges and highschools.

I guess if you're going to pick, just be smart about using either of them. Don't be the person who has their age, street adress and full name on their page.

i totally agree with you. I have both a facebook and a myspace. i love myspace i go on basically every day and i only go on facebook maybee.. 3 times a month ?

it bores the crap out of mee!

I've been having a lot of trouble opening myspace on my computer. I just get a "cannot open server" page each and everytime. When I go to a friend's house to try and log on it never lets me. The page loads up real slow and it won't go past the "skip advertisement" page." When I exit out of explorer and try to log back in myspace it just refuses to load. I can access my page by putting in my address in the browser I just can't log into my account. I contacted myspace about a week ago with no response. Anyone know what could be a possible problem. Anything opinions will help.

If you can't access the myspace page it could be your cookies--

Open up Internet Explorer.

Go to the Tools Tab

Click Internet Options

Under General Tab click "Delete cookies"

Now Click Privacy Tab

Click Advance

Check the box for "Override Automatic Cookie Handling" and the box for "Always allow session cookies"

Click OK- Click Apply- Click Ok

Open a new Internet Explorer page and go to Myspace.com

I'm having the same exact problem, so you're not alone. It just started happening yesterday for me.

I've heard a lot of the servers are down, so I guess we're some of the lucky ones. Just check your profile every now and then at the direct link to make sure it's still there, and just wait it out I guess.

I'm not making a new profile unless I have no choice. So I'd rather wait.

Hi im sorry about the password, but im afraid there is nothing you can do to get the password back without hacking it back yourself and i will not tell you how to do this because its illigial ...on here anyways, furthermore you could email a myspace administrator and plead them for your password back , if this does not work navigate to your daughters page and copy the source code (right click %26gt; view source) that way you can just rebuild her page back to the way it was but im afraid she will have to get all of her firneds to send her new friend requests.

The way I stay in contact with my friends is through MySpace.. I work way to freaking hard not to have some time at night in the hotel to catch up with friends. So, telling me to stop playing and work is not an answer. Answer if you have a way around the problem..

That's a great way to get fired. Circumventing any security initiative designed by the company is usually grounds for termination.

That said, if you travel for work and they provide a laptop, don't connect to the VPN to browse web sites. If they have software on the PC itself to prevent access to certain sites, download and burn a Linux Live cd (ubuntu or knoppix) and boot to that instead of booting to the hard drive.

1)if possible try portable firefox:

2) try using a proxy avoider ( google proxy avoider)

3) try googling your myspace page "www.myspace.com/username", and see if u can use one of the cache links

This might be a sign that you are too young for the commitment you have together. With maturity, these issues simply would not come up unless one or the other is suffering from an internet addiction that would destroy the relationship anyway. I think you should be grateful that all of this happened before you got married. To tell you the truth, it sounds like high school, not work. Plenty of schools have to block myspace but I never heard of a business having to do that.

Edit it so anyone can see it. It could have to do with your age. The website knows you are a minor, so it wont allow you to not be private. Its actually good for you in my oppinion. You might need to make a new account, but put in a fake old age so anyone can see it, or change your "birthday" under "basic info". Trust me. Your real friends will know how old you are.

Put your url for your page at the top and put the url for the pic in the space where it says background url. the click preview. Then to the right it lets you tile the background,let background scroll or not scroll and more have fun with it when you like what you see copy the code and paste it in the about me section but first remove old code. your page will look the same the only thing different will be the background. save changes.

Facebook has less viruses and less spam. People dont go on Facebook just to do stupid stuff to other people. I like facebook becus u can add games and play against ur friends. hi. yea when i first started facebook i thought it was boring too but you just have to learn more about it. you can send people "gifts" to their page. and you can buy them "drinks". you can play games for example, i could challenge you on a movie quiz to see how well you know the movie A CHRISTMAS STORY just for an example. Its a lot easier to connect to people on facebook. There are tons of quizzes there are also thousands of groups you can join. you can still have music videos on you're page. trust me once you give it a chance i think you'll really like it!! good luck!!

I like both of them, I have accounts with the both of them, but I like MySpace better, because it lets me connect with people over the world, not just people inmy network(s).

Facebook is great too, I love the little applications and the quizzes and stuff.

My advice to you is to get both of them, and let yourself decide which one is better.

I really don't know much about Facebook, I have a profile there, and there seems to be a lot more group activity, a bit more potential to meet new people, rather than simply keeping in touch with people you already know

I personally like Myspace better (not to say I LIKE it, neither are my favorite social networking site), it seems to give more room for creativity, It's easier to use (learning curve isn't as steep), and simply more fun.

I switched over to facebook when I first found out about it and definitely prefer it. Facebook feels a lot more safe than myspace and the options are amazing. Most of my friends have one, so its great for communication purposes because of the ability to message, write on eachothers walls, create events and groups, send gifts, poke, etc. Finding people with the networks is a breeze and your facebook page can be just as personalized as a myspace page but in a very different way. The layout is simple and, it could appear boring at first because of the inability to personalize backgrounds and fonts, but the lack of obnoxious pop-ups and unnecessary layout features that makes your computer freeze while loading make it a lot more pleasant. The applications recently created and the ability to post pictures makes facebook so much fun! I would definitely give facebook a chance because you are sure to come to like it just as much if not more than myspace.

It depends on what you want in a social networking site.

If you want to meet new people, Myspace is for you.

If its purely for your current friends, go with Facebook.

For an article for my school paper, I did a lot of research into the safety features of both sites, which is the main concern with most people because the sites serve basically the same purpose. With Facebook, members must be invited and confirmed by a network, so that means no random old skeezes. Its not 100% safe, but they've been working on a faster, more effective turn around for abuse complaints. Plus, you can choose how much information individuals see. Facebook is getting more and more customizable. Over the passed summer, they've added a lot of new apps and cool stuff, so if you have a lot of people already using it, I highly recommend Facebook.

I think Myspace gets a bad rap, but if you're going to keep using a myspace account, please please PLEASE be careful. A lot of the myspace related incidents and tragedies have to do with people not being careful about who they talk to and who can see their information. A myspace profile is much more open to the public than a facebook. But, you can customize it more, which is pretty fun. Also, myspace has a much larger music and video community. Their band sites are amazing, but you don't need a myspace to look at them, so you can really go either way.

Facebook WAS created for a more mature audience. It was started by Harvard students a couple years back and has expanded over time to other colleges and highschools.

I guess if you're going to pick, just be smart about using either of them. Don't be the person who has their age, street adress and full name on their page.

I just made a myspace and immediately I met this guy who we will call, Fred. Fred just wanted to talk and be friends, I had no problem with this. Then, he started to get a little obsessive. First, he was freaking out about how many times we were going to talk each day. Then, he wanted to talk online on aim. Then, he starts asking me out and he wants me to meet up with him and hang out with his family. Obviously, I told him no. But, I will not lie when I say I'm a little scared. I blocked him online so that he has no way of getting a hold of me. But, he lives in the same town as I do and works at a common place I go to, I've never met him before though. So, do you think I should still be worried. I block him from myspace and aim. I didn't really have any personal information about myself, like my address or anything. I just have my college on there. Plus, there are pics of me. Should I be worried or am i making a big deal over nothing??

Well, I would be worried if someone is behaving like this. First I would remove all photos of you from your space, or make them to friends only and remove him as a friend. Then I would make your ENTIRE profile private, viewable to friends only. If he attempts to contact you again by creating a seperate account... well... just be weary and I woul dtry to stay away from the place that he works as a precaution. I don't know if this person is just being childish or if he could really be a threat, but take it from someone who met a psycho online... it isn't a fun thing to get rid of them. Especially if you are in the same town, better to nip it in the bud now.

I would keep your eyes and ears open. You put your picture and your college on your page. If you begin to get contact that is something other than on myspace or aim, you need to contact the police. You need to try to make sure you are safe. Have people walk you to your car, try not to go places alone. Make sure there is someone in your family and/or close circle of friends that you can give your schedule to, give them any additions to it. If you have this guy's full name, you might want a restraining order. Notify your campus security of the situation. They will usually be willing to escort you back to your car or dorm to help keep you safe. If he starts showing up, or anything like that call the cops! There are stalking laws. If he is going to go to this degree, which he may, you need to use those laws.

first of all, make your Myspace page private. Then only people on your friends list can see your photos, and blogs, etc. People that are NOT on your friends list will just see the plain original white page you started with, and your main photo.

I think you are a VERY smart girl to trust your instinct on this guy. He is creepy and obsessive and you should stay away.

Pretend that the internet as the mall. Treat all people you meet online as if you were @ the mall meeting them. If some guy just came up to you and started asking you out, and said "HEY come over here and meet my family. Can i have your phone number??" you would think he was a freak and get security.

But for some reason when people meet others online, they feel the need to not be "rude".

Stay away from this guy. Make your profile private. On your Maine Page, click on "account settings". Then click on "Privacy Settings". Scroll down to "who can view my profile" and click "My friends only". Here you can also hide your "online now" icon, and stop pic forwarding.

I personally don't add anyone to my myspace friends list unless they accompany the request with a message to my inbox. If they can't introduce themselves and tell me a little about themselves, then they aren't going to be a friend of MINE.

Do everything in your power to avoid him. Those kind of guys are dangerous. I'm not trying to scare you, but it's possible he could track you down somehow. Be careful about what information you have on the internet. Take off anything like phone numbers, addresses, age, school, work, even your last name. You might want to start using a different name online. Don't give away any personal information because anyone could use it against you. It doesn't usually happen to totally random people. It usually happens to people that have been in situations like yours. There are ways to protect yourself. Be careful what info. you post and what you say to people, especially strangers, in conversations. Ok...I made a myspace acount and I cant seem to log back into it...I typed in my email address and my password and it said that my account was off limits for 15 minutes...so an hour later I try logging in and I still cant get in...So I made another myspace account and sent a message to the myspace help center to tell them that I would like to delete both accounts and I havent gotten a response yet. I really need someone to help me either log back in to my first account or help cancel both of my accounts! Thank You!

Well when i go to myspace.com login page and type in my correct info it sends me back to the login page sayin You Must Be Logged-In to do That! or a different url address like this one http://login2.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuse... and another one thats www1.myspace.com this one i sent to myspace faq and they said i was a normal page.....But i was still un-sure....But the strange thing is that i can log on my account from another computer but not on mine......... It'z been almost 2 months and i still cannot log-in either it directs me to another myspace page.......My profile is not deleted and is not going to get deleted.....also it says i have logged on when i haven't........ on my firefox mozilla in my source code there is codes with google about deppression anxiety and trackin....Please help me and answer this with a answer that answers my question and have aleast common sense to stay on the subject ty!!

MySpace is a pain. Sometimes you have to log in to be able to log off! Their programmers smoke crack, but just make sure you're signed out before you actually try to sign in. If that doesn't work, try to contact their support team (who prolly won't respond). Sorry for your problems.. We all wish MySpace had their **** together a little better.

I had the same problem and found I had blocked cookies from their websites. Once I unblocked their cookies. I was able to get on with no problem.
