Do you think Myspace is unnecessary for teens or parents are just exaggerating , because they are naive to what goes on ,

I'm a teen, and i have one. and i know alot of people who just use myspace carelessly.
There's just too much trouble it creates. I think, if everyone kept their profiles privatized instead of public (you have the choice of enabling it to be searchable and to being public.) things would be better. that way people who didn't know you couldn't search you and try to friend you.
it always stinks to have the irresponsible few ruin everything, but for the sake of safety, I'd give up my myspace in a heartbeat.
it's a good communication device, and it's got a lot of upsides. It's hard to decide on these things. Alot of musicians get jumpstarts on their careers through myspace. In fact, Myspace has changed the dynamics by which so much media is shared. I would never ask them to shut down their music sector. It's one of the highlights of the site.
But such luxuries come after safety and responsibility. Besides, some people just spend too much time there. It might do them some good pick up a few different hobbies.

Parents %26amp; Myspace ? I think the parents are just worried about there kids, because there are a lot of creepy people on myspace and teens profiles can tell a lot of information about them sometimes.
Parents %26amp; Myspace ? Its not really necessary. But if you must have one, your parent has every right to monitor it. We live in a dangerous world and there are a lot of preditors out there preying on young nieve children. The most important thing is safty.
Parents %26amp; Myspace ? i do think myspace is not appropriate for teenagers. i think you should have to have a bank account (like paypal) to have one. or a drivers liscense. its not the teen's that i worry about, its the adults that can't act right. too many scary things could happen and the problem is that teenagers don't put their profile to private most of the time.
Parents %26amp; Myspace ? I would say it's unnecessary for teens, but that's just my opinion. I've heard about/read about so many horror stories that are in direct corrolation with MySpace that I would never want my children to get on there and set up pages and associate with people that they don't know on the internet. Teens are so impressional and out to rebel at times and that's perfectly understandable, BUT I worry that some sneaky, lying snake on MySpace or any chat room would set their sights on them and somehow convince them to go against what I have taught them. I don't know, call me crazy! ;-)
Parents %26amp; Myspace ? Well there's lots of things that are unnecessary, and myspace is one, but that doesn't mean it's not a fun thing to do. Parents overreact to many things, and the media is in a frenzy for anything that will make news, so they make myspace seem a lot more dangerous than it is. Out of the millions of users, I'm sure only a handful are ever harmed from it, and I bet it's as safe to go to myspace as it is to go to a local park.
Parents %26amp; Myspace ? Well not everything is bad about Myspace. But what the hell ever happened to talking on the phone, text messages, IM, or e-mails. Just tell them that Myspace is a waste of their youth. It's true. A waste.

But have you looked into the amount of predatory behaviour out in the world of cyberspace? And how much paedophilia is out there?
There are so many adults out there wanting to take advantage of kids and mislead them into false securities over the net for sexual activity. Im about to become a parent myself seeing im 37wks pregnant and i know i will fear the day my son wants to create a page online.
When he is old enough to have his own page, i will let him have one (seeing i already know its a boy). But i will want constant communication and feedback from him about his activities online. It doesnt matter whether you are male or female. I trust my child - i DONT trust the meat eaters on this contraption.

Parents %26amp; Myspace ? Everyone under the age of 18 will hate me for saying this. But kids under 18 shouldnt be on the internet. Nothing really good can come out of it.
Its like letting a kid loose in a porn shop that just happens to contain some kid toys. Then parents whine when their kids come across pornography. The moral would be, They shouldn't have been in the porn shop in the first place.
I don't mean to be rude. I really don't understand why kids should be on the internet. Don't deny it, most of you know this place is full of porn and child predators. If you want to talk to your friends, call them. If you want to socialize, go out in the real world.

and while it is important that parents worry about what their kids are doing/talking to on-line, I think there is a bit naivete when it comes to things like myspace.
Parents %26amp; Myspace ? Some parents should just trust their child because some teens just talk to their friends on MySpace, or people they truly know, and block creeps that send them an odd message. But, parents have every right to know what their children are doing on the computer.

That same crap has stopped giving teens a place to hang out.
I used to go cruising, that was made illegal and we had nowhere to hang out.
I used to hang out on "the strip". Loitering was illegal.
If the internet is SOO bad and dangerous...TEACH the kids what to do and look out for. The street is dangerous, we teach our kids to cross that instead of closing off the streets.
